Biographic information about the Turkish curator and writer Esra Sarigedik Öktem

Since 2011 Esra Sarigedik Öktem is the Head of Arts at the British Council, Turkey. Between 2005 and 2007 she worked as a research curator at the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. From 2004 until 2005 she was assistant curator for the 9th International Istanbul Biennial. Between 2008 and 2011 Sarigedik Öktem was running the project initiated by the British Council titled My City a large-scale art in the public realm project realised in different cities in Turkey, commissioned works by artists from across Europe and a residency programme in several European art institutions for artists from Turkey. Her lectures and texts are centred round nationalism and contemporary art.
