Biographic information about the British curator, writer and tutor Kit Hammonds

Kit Hammonds is a curator and writer based in London. From 2004-2008 he was Associate Curator at the South London Gallery where his exhibitions included solo shows by Mark Dion, Thomas Zipp, Daniel Roth, Melik Ohanian and Nigel Cooke as well as group exhibitions including Games & Theory, 2008; Around the World in Eighty Days (in collaboration with the ICA, curated with Clare Fitzsimmons, Margot Heller and Jens Hoffman), 2005; and Independence, 2004. Also during his time at the SLG he developed a strand of programming exploring the gallery as different forms of social, community and public spaces including The Weasel: Pop Music and Contemporary Art, 2007; Harold Offeh’s The Mothership Collective, 2006; and Summer Daze, 2005; all of which provided the public opportunities for participation and play within the exhibition. In 2004 he established Publish and be Damned with Emily Pethick. It is an ongoing project that involves artist publishers and features self-organised, distributed art projects in fairs, touring exhibitions and one-off projects. Hammonds is currently a tutor in the Curating Contemporary Art Programme at the Royal College of Art, London, where he has been based since 2007. He graduated from the department’s MA programme in 2001.
