Biographic information about the Belarusian artist Marina Naprushkina
Marina Naprushkina (born 1981, Minsk, lives in Berlin) is primarily
interested in the political dimensions and scope of art. During her artistic
career, she has become a committed observer and critic of the autocratic
Belarusian system. In her long-standing research and archive project
"Büro für Antipropaganda" ("Office for Antipropaganda"), she turns her attention
towards mechanisms of control and manipulation for the purposes of the
safeguarding of power. She sees Belarus as a case study for “how a modern
dictatorship is established and how western democracies deal with this
‘problem’”. In the meantime, Naprushkina’s art has become the subject of
controversial discussions in Belarus. She is, however, prohibited from exhibiting
her work there.
